The 4th DeLIVER Newsletter

Dear PEARL PIs and nursing leads

We are now 91 patients recruited towards our 3000 patient target, which is good going (since we started end of Feb) — though a way to go yet.

Below is the latest “data” extracted from the PEARL bioanalysis portal today and an updated on site set up and recruitment. As expected, alcoholic liver disease and NAFLD are still leading the charge, with HCV, HBV and haemochromatosis following up.

A huge thanks to those who attended or dialled in for the face-to-face meeting last week and for all the hard work that went into organising this (Francoise, Sophie, Jenni, Hayley) and chairing sessions (Tim, Aileen). It was a really good day with patient representation, CRUK attending, and some good science and plans presented - but mostly it was just really good to meet everyone. So good that we will repeat this later in the year or early 2023.

Some of the science highlights for me were new metabolomic data, an HCC analysis from the primary care Q research data base, the latest GALAD data from Roche, and a fresh take on HBV described as a “carcinogen”.

We have had really positive feedback regarding ease of use of the REDCAP data entry registry, but as ever we (James!) remain on standby to make the study as easy as possible to recruit to, and welcome feedback in real time of any issues regarding the study protocol, blood sampling or shipment of samples. Andy has managed to automate the data inputted to calculate some of the HCC risk scores. Klaudia in the lab here is doing a super job of processing the samples ready for cfDNA analysis as these come in real time. Surprisingly the deficits in sampling appear to be urine and Jenni will be in touch about this.

Have a lovely weekend -and do enjoy the sun (being UK it may not last)
